For 8 years, Randy was a member of a SWAT team. Over the next 4, he worked as a fire investigator, training with Fire Inspectors and Fire/Arson Investigators, and was soon promoted to Fire Inspector and Investigator. While working as a fire inspector, Randy became certified as a Police officer and has maintained that certification to date.

Years later, Randy pursued a career as a Fire Marshal Detective and was hired to the Bureau of Fire, Arson, and Explosives Investigations. Randy became an expert in the investigation of the origin and cause of all structural fires and explosions whether intentional or accidental (i.e., commercial, residential, vehicles and vessels). The arson investigations were broad in nature and connected to many other related crimes, such as homicide, burglaries, fraud, acts of domestic and foreign terrorism, domestic and sexual abuse, clandestine drug labs, serial arson, civil disturbance, and numerous others.

In the last 4 years of his career with the Bureau of Fire, Arson, and Explosives, Randy was an acting Lieutenant. In January of 2018, he was promoted to the rank of lieutenant, where he was responsible for disaster responses, large complex commercial fires, and explosions scenes.
