He is a Limited Term Lecturer at Purdue in West Lafayette and adjunct faculty at the McCrone Research Institute in Chicago. He was formerly adjunct faculty at both IU School of Medicine and IUPUI. He has extensive experience with buildings and biological agents This includes building envelope evaluation, infrared thermography, energy load calculation, building envelope modeling using WUFI and MOIST, environmental condition monitoring, thermodynamics and heat transfer assessment, pressurization testing, moisture mapping, OR commissioning, particle and aerosol assessments. He also has experience in mold and bacteria investigations for schools, offices, condos, houses, medical facilities, pharmacies, retail stores, high-rise buildings, etc.; sampling using a variety of equipment for culturable and non-culturable mold & bacteria samples; microscopical analysis by light and scanning electron microscopy of bulk, tape lifts, and air samples. He has prepared plans and specifications for mold remediation of residences, banks, multistory condos, commercial offices, and hospitals. He has managed mold remediation and legionella projects from one-day single room mold issues to half-year remediation of 26,000 linear feet of ductwork in a hospital. He has trained workers for investigation and mold remediation. Mr. Havics has supervised or managed many projects involving biological contamination at medical facilities and even an L1011 airplane. In addition to being a member of the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA) Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ) committee that develops guidance documents, Mr. Havics has worked on the ASTM standard E2418 Standard Guide for Readily Observable Mold and Conditions Conducive to Mold in Commercial Buildings as well as the proposed ASHRAE-IAQA Standard for the Assessment of Educational Facilities for Moisture Affected Areas and Fungal Contamination.
