John Hicks is the Director of Complex Loss in Canada with over 30 years of experience investigating high-tech equipment and machinery losses, determining origin and cause of damage and providing loss assessments to the insurance and legal industries. These investigations have taken him to various locations across North and South America, where his fluency in Spanish has been highly valuable.
In addition to physics, John has focused on electronics, where he designed a control system for oil spill detection for the U.S. Coast Guard and a process control design for steel manufacturers and petrochemical companies.
John has authored a number of articles in leading industry magazines, taught numerous courses, and presented at leading industry conferences on topics related to losses and damage assessments. His focus has been in the high-tech engineering field, providing damage assessments and causation analyses. He also has practical knowledge of hardware and software engineering in the areas of data/voice communications, process control, manufacturing automation, and building services (security, lighting, HVAC, fire) for industries and institutions such as airports, automobile, petrochemical, steel, nuclear and educational/ financial.
