Envista Welcomes Three New Experts in August

22 September 2023

In August, Envista onboarded three new experts within our Civil/Structural division.

Meet Envista’s Newest Additions!

John Gunn, PE

Project Engineer, Civil/Structural (Philadelphia, PA)

John Gunn is a Project Engineer with over six years of progressive experience in the design and investigation of buildings and properties. With a background in civil, structural, and materials engineering, John has designed a wide variety of structures across the United States, including parking garages, dormitories, multi-story commercial buildings, industrial plant buildings, and residences. He also has a research background in concrete, specifically, non-destructive testing to determine the extent of cracking in concrete.

Fun Fact: My favorite part about being an engineer is that every investigation is different.

Sal Merdach, PE

Project Engineer, Civil/Structural (Los Angeles, CA)

Sal Merdach is a project engineer with eight years of experience in civil and structural engineering. He holds a Professional Engineer license in California, demonstrating his proficiency in design standards, local regulations, and building codes. He specializes in structural design, grading and drainage design, and project management. Sal’s experience in the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industry has exposed him to a wide range of projects, from initial planning to construction.

Fun Fact: As a child, I always wanted to be a Pilot.

Thomas Hill, PE

Project Engineer, Civil/Structural (Los Angeles, CA)

Thomas Hill is a Project Engineer with over five years of experience in the design and construction of structures. He is knowledgeable in the analysis of structures designed under contemporary building codes including the CBC, CRC, AISC 360, ACI 318, ACI 530, AISI, and NDS. He has experience in new hospital design and renovation, along with construction engineering including excavation support and steel erection bracing, as well as investigation and reconstruction-oriented projects for various residential and small commercial structures. Licensed as a Professional Engineer in California, Thomas has been responsible for producing structural design drawings, coordinating with other trades, overseeing construction, and conducting investigative site work.

Fun Fact: One of the most interesting investigations I've worked on was a loss where the owner was claiming a tree root had caused tiles to pop in their kitchen. The rest of the house was sound so this seemed unlikely. Through expert knowledge and a little field measurement, we were able to discern the problem was more likely than not a break in the vapor barrier under the slab of the residence paired with mis-installed grout on the underside of the kitchen tiles.

Welcome to the team!
