Geologist in Tampa, FL

Professional Profile

A Geologist with over 9 years of progressive experience in the field of geology with a focus in geotechnical investigations. He has experience in a variety of areas including evaluation of geotechnical studies for the presence and potential for sinkhole activity. He has performed work related to the identification of geologic hazards in Alabama, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, and Tennessee. Currently, his work primarily includes performing investigations for the presence and potential for sinkhole activity. In addition, he has provided opinions for studies involving the presence of detrimental soil or geotechnical conditions which may have or may be affecting existing structures. These studies include the field and laboratory testing to enable assessments of subsurface conditions such as buried organic material, buried debris, expansive clayey soils and sinkhole or solution feature activity. His duties also involved overseeing field activities, compiling the geotechnical information, interpreting collected data and preparing reports to convey the information to our clients in a manner that is both comprehensible to non-scientists and still defendable against peer scrutiny in a highly litigious industry. The investigations utilize various geophysical survey methods to aid in test boring placement and to evaluate the suitability for site development and storm water management, which aid in the determination of the causes of ground subsidence or settlement of structures and further enable the identification of subsurface features of interest such as buried or ancient sinkholes, utilities or underground storage tanks and buried debris. Other geophysical applications include the delineation of landfill cell boundaries and non-destructive testing of concrete for reinforcement. He has also performed geophysical surveys for GM and Ford Motor Companies using GPR and Electro Magnetic (EM31) for landfill delineation on desert proving grounds in Arizona. Multiple landfill areas ranging in size from small filled pits to areas several acres in size were delineated in widespread dessert areas. As a result of his investigations for the insurance industry, he has provided fact/expert testimony in several depositions
